　　I read <The old man and the sea> when I was in junior middle school. At that time I do not know why the old man persists to take dentuso back. It’s so dangerous to fight with sharks. But he did not give up.

　　But now I’m really proud of Santiago. He is so brave and persevering. “But a man is not made for defeat” he said “A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”

　　Santiago was old just as Hemingway said “Everything about him was old except his eyes and they were the same color as the sea and were cheerful and undefeated.” He think every day is a new day. No matter how old he is. He said “It’s better to be lucky. But I would rather be exact. Then when luck comes you are ready.”

　　Santiago was poor; he had nothing except a little boat and harpoon. But he said “Now is no time to think of what you do not have. Think of what you can do with what there is.”

　　Santiago was alone. Mandolin can not go to sea with him because of his parents. He catches fishes alone. He fights with sharks alone. He can talk to nobody except himself. No one will help him.

　　But even though he faced hungry; weary and difficulty alone, he does not give up.

　　Somebody said Santiago was a failure. Because at last he said he wishes that it had been a dream and the boy cried for him can really approve it.

　　In this way I think Santiago was a lucky person. Because he still had Mandolin. The boy loved him and pitied him. If Mandolin had no money his own, he begged or stole to make sure that Santiago had enough to eat and fresh baits for his lines. The old man accepts his kindness with humility that was like a quiet kind of pride.

　　I think Santiago is a hero and he is not a failure. Because catch fish is a part of his life and it is the memory of his mind and he catch a really big fish back at last. The value of his life was completely reflected in the way he catch fish. He is the real winner in his own world.

　　After I think about this book and Santiago. I realized that I’m not brave enough. I can not stay hopeful when I face laugh and indifferent. And I don’t have enough courage to do what I want to do. I’m so afraid of this world. I’m so afraid of the people’s words who speak it behind my back. I’m so cowardly and that’s the reason I always lose.

　　Now I know what to do. Don’t mind others. Be myself. I need possess the quality of reason and shay cheerful and undefeated. Be kind and happy. Be strong and optimistic.

　　The novel description is one year near sixty years of age senior fisherman, when alone goes to sea in one fishing, fished one big fish, actually did not pull. the senior fisherman socialized several days after the fish, only then discovered this was the big marlin which one surpassed the oneself fishing boat several fold, although knew perfectly well very difficult to win, but still did not give up. afterwards and further because in the big marlin wound fish fishy smell brought in several crowds of shark fish snatches the food, but the old person still did not hope like this to give up, finally highlighted encircles tightly, returned to the big fish belt the fishing port, lets other fishermen not admire already.

　　When i read the big marlin start fast to gather round the young fishing boat hover, twined the cable on the mast, the old person right hand lifted up high the steel fork, leapt the water surface in it the flash, did utmost throws to its heart, one wail ended the big fish’s life, it was static static floats on the water surface… when, my heart also liked together the big stone falls. i extremely admire old person that kind do not dread, the relentless spirit, although knows the match strength is very strong, but he not slightly flinches, but is welcomes difficultly above. just because had this kind of spirit, the senior fisherman only then achieved this life and death contest success. we also must study senior fisherman’s spirit in life, handles the matter does not fear the difficulty, only then can obtain successfully was reading the big fish’s smell of blood is smelled by one crowd of shark fish, struggled swims snatches the food, old person’s left hand happen to in the convulsions, he only could use the right hand, with wooden stick， the mouth and so on all was allowed to use for the weapon self-defense which attacked, and finally expelled this crowd of shark fish. but the big fish’s meat was already eaten one most, but the old person also charmingly criticized oneself the left hand this work time actually was resting time, i also was subdued by the old person optimistic spirit. in the life, some losses are inevitable, we should treat by the optimistic manner, cannot be calculating.

　　Finally, the novel sees by one youth the senior fisherman fully has 18 foot long big marlin in the measure, once more described this fish’s hugeness, explained senior fisherman overcomes the difficulty was big, non- was more common than. the novel eulogized the spirit which the senior fisherman fear hard and dangerous diligently did not struggle, we also should like his such, could not satisfy the present situation, should positively to above, do any matter all is relentless, meets difficultly must welcome difficultly above, could give up halfway in no way. only has this, we only then can obtain a bigger success and the victory.

This sentence has lingered in my mind since I finished the book” The Old Man and the Sea” In the face of fighting with this huge marlin, the old man did not release the fishing line in his hands for three days and nights, and the old man did not flinch when confronted with attack of sharks, but decided to pick up the wooden stick in the hands to defend their own harvest.

　　Such a tough guy image suddenly highlighted in front of me, which made me admire him and cheer for his strong mind. Challenge is of course nowhere in the present life. We need to learn from the old man who with a brave heart, in the face of challenges clenched his fist, rather than yield, avoid, and give up. In the boundless sea, the old man was sitting alone in the little sailing boat, and seemed so small under the setting sun in the distance, extraordinarily slim.

　　But the old man hadn’t caught one fish since 84days ago. In t such situation, the old man was still optimistic, looking at the sun rise and set, watching the looming moon, and enjoying the company of fish and birds, and talking with wind and water. He just became one part of the sea. The sea, kind and beautiful, finally gave the old man a big marlin but the ocean was also cruel- lots of sharks came flooding to rob the fish, trying beating the old man and crushing his "glory". The old man's loneliness and happy were associated with the sea, through whom, the author enthusiastically praise the human’s bravery when facing hardships. So no matter how difficult the things are, we all can't give up ourselves.
